Memories of our Sacred Journey to Wales last September 2023
Stonehenge Planetary Temple of the Solar System Sacred Journeys
Journey 2 – September 2023 - England and Wales
As we begin to move forward with our plans for a Sacred Journey to Ireland - Journey 3 in the series, we realised that Marcus never wrote up our experiences on our last Sacred Journey in September 2023, so here goes…
Having begun the first of four such journeys in 2019, exploring sites on the planetary orbit paths around Stonehenge (the Sun), from Mercury (at Woodhenge) out as far as Saturn (at the Rollright Stones), we were then interrupted by the arrival of Covid!
Finally in September 2023, we were able to resume, with a unique and magical sacred journey to follow the weavings of the Earth-energy line that links Stonehenge with the ancient stone circles and other sites in and around the Preseli Hills in Wales. We followed this line as it weaves its way into Wales, passing there through the orbits of Chiron, Uranus and Neptune.
Our journey of 11 days began with us staying for three nights in luxurious wood cabins near Stonehenge. From here we made our first connections with the Stonehenge - Preseli energy line to the east of Stonehenge at the Mizmaze on St. Catherine’s Hill, then at the magnificent Iron Age earthwork of Danebury Ring. The complex, subtle energies of the Mizmaze channel the interweaving of the Stonehenge – Preseli energy line with the Belinus – Elen currents of the Belinus Line (see The Spine of Albion by Gary Biltcliffe and Caroline Hoare).
The multi-layered ramparts of Danebury Ring enfolded us and, along with a torrential baptism as we approached the hidden centre, took us deep into the embrace of Mother Earth, in preparation for our private access visit for meditation and ceremony inside Stonehenge that evening.
The next day we continued by following the energy line westwards, working our way through the magnificent Westbury White Horse and Bratton Camp, where we held a powerful drum ceremony at Bratton Long Barrow, to reinforce the male and female currents of the energy line as they pass through the barrow and then on through the legs of the white horse itself.
After the exhilaration of the high energy and high location of Bratton Camp, we moved on to experience the exquisite energy of the little-known and hidden away Devil’s Bed and Bolster, near Rode, where the Stonehenge - Preseli line interweaves subtly with the Michael current of the famous Michael - Mary line (see The Sun and the Serpent by Hamish Miller and Paul Broadhurst). This is truly a hidden gem.
Departing from Wiltshire and heading towards Wales, our journey then took us deep within and down into heart of Mother Earth inside the beautiful Stoney Littleton Long Barrow. From there, we opened ourselves out to receive the vastness of the heavens at the magnificent Sun and Moon circles of Stanton Drew, which lie just outside Jupiter’s orbit path around Stonehenge, as though we were being propelled out towards the outer edges of our solar system!
We crossed the River Severn into Wales, to stay for two nights in Monmouth. From here we went to meditate inside the magnificent ruins of Tintern Abbey on the banks of the River Wye, and then held our Autumn Equinox ceremony at the healing waters of St. Anne’s Virtuous Well and the impressive alignment of Harold’s Stones, in the ancient village of Trellech, which was one of the most important towns of medieval Wales, the remains of which have been the subject of archaeological excavations over many years.
Leaving Monmouth, we headed deeper into Wales to experience the healing energy of the Gorsedd site at Pontypridd Rocking Stone, experience the healing energy of the Gorsedd site at Pontypridd Rocking Stone, on the Chiron orbit. From there we veered off the energy line to visit Llanilid Cor (earthwork) and church, with its ancient yew trees. According to Janis Fry in her book The Cult of the Yew, this was actually the site of the first Christian Church in Britain, established by Aristobulus, a friend of Joseph of Arimathea, before Joseph reached Glastonbury to establish the church there. The Cor or earthwork is believed to have been a sacred gathering place for the Druids, long before the arrival of Christianity. It is a place of profound depth and stillness.
On our route deeper into Wales, we stopped at the vast standing stone at Brynmaen Farm, on the orbit of Uranus. In true Uranian style, it was not in the field where I had remembered
it was, and was completely hidden from view, as if it had disappeared. Suddenly there it was, popping out above the other side of a hedge, in a very, very muddy field. When Sue and I had visited it several years ago, we sat and had our picnic beneath it on sun-baked soil.
With Uranus, always expect the unexpected! (If you plan to visit this site, please ask permission from the farmer first; they are happy to oblige.)
We arrived in Pembrokeshire to stay for the next 5 nights on an estate next to the river, near Haverfordwest. From here, we headed out to a beautiful woodland walk to the magical Gwal-y-Filiast dolmen, surrounded by majestic beech trees. Some believe this is where the goddess Ceridwen transformed into a Greyhound during her pursuit of young Gwion, in the tale of Taliesin. It is a node point of the Stonehenge – Preseli line where the male and female energy currents are clearly marked by other nearby stones, before they converge at the dolmen. It is the most magical of places and felt like it is a gateway into the mysteries of the sacred landscape of the Preselis.
From here, we followed the energy currents to Meini Gwyr, ostensibly just a small henge circle with two standing stones remaining, which mark the male and female energy currents; but in the centre of the henge, it feels like the whole cosmos is accessible! From there, it is a short drive to the sublime Gors Fawr, with its circle of smallish stones, but a vast expansive energy, in the wide valley stretching out beneath the Preseli Hills. We continued following the energy lines which lead us through Cerrig Meibion Arthur Standing Stones, the two “stones of the sons of Arthur”. Over the mountain beyond that lie the not-so-easy to find, remains of the once magnificent bluestone circle of Waun Mawn, which we planned to visit two days later.
For our penultimate day, we had planned to take a ferry ride across to Skomer Island, to connect with the energy of the sea and experience the beauty and magic of Neptune’s orbit, but the weather had other ideas. So, instead, we had a very wet and blustery visit to St. Non’s Chapel and Holy Well and then to St. David’s Cathedral.
On our final day, we headed out to Waun Mawn bluestone circle. Just four stones remain in a wide arc, leaving the impression of a once huge stone circle, which still has a vast energy that literally stops you in your tracks, as you approach. Some believe that this was once the site of the bluestones that were later moved to become the bluestone circle of Stonehenge, although there is now some controversy about this claim. Either way, it is a stunningly impressive site, with evidence of other nearby stones and perhaps even a stone avenue that once led up to it.
After Waun Mawn, some of us made it part-way up Carningli / Angel Mountain for a ceremony of gratitude, whilst the others remained below to drum us up the hill. Our final destination, to anchor and ground us back to Earth was at the exquisite and elegant dolmen of Pentre Ifan.
